Business leaders, agencies, and educators will attend to learn how the ACT WorkKeys^® assessments measure foundational skills required for success in the workplace—skills found to be most essential across industries and occupations. According to the website workreadycommunities.org, “Nationally 82% of businesses use NCRC^® as a part of their hiring processes.”

The ACT WorkKeys® testing will be administered to emerging workforce (high school, college, recent graduate), transitioning workforce (job-seekers, adult education, recent veterans), and current workforce. Business involvement is essential and companies and organizations are asked to recommend and/or recognize the NCRC^®.

The Initiative was approved through a resolution in late summer of 2018 by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors (BOS) and is a collaborative effort between the BOS, Core Team (Harrison County Development Commission, Port of Gulfport, and Gulfport High School) , and Leadership Team. The goal is to achieve certification in one year with the result that all three coastal counties will be ACT WorkReady Certified. Executive Director Bill Lavers with the Harrison County Development Commission is enthusiastic about the Harrison County, MS ACT WorkReady Initiative and says, “So who wins? Employers, job-seekers, educators, economic developers, and most importantly, our community.”
