Building Workforce Connections: HCDC and Bollinger Shipyards Host Lunch & Learn
Last week, Harrison County Development Commission (HCDC) and Bollinger Shipyards partnered to host a Lunch & Learn event for the superintendents and career and technical education (CTE) directors in Harrison County. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships between education and industry while showcasing innovative programs that prepare students for future careers. Those in attendance included Gulfport School District Superintendent Glen East and Long Beach School District Superintendent Dr. Talia Lock, with special guest Representative Kevin Felsher.
Spotlight on Bollinger Bootcamp
During the lunch, Bollinger Shipyards introduced their Bollinger Bootcamp program, designed to provide hands-on training and career pathways for students interested in maritime and shipbuilding careers. The program highlights how industry leaders can directly engage with educators to align classroom instruction with workforce needs. By creating meaningful connections between schools and industry, Bollinger is investing in a future-ready workforce and opening doors for Harrison County students to explore rewarding career opportunities close to home.
Engaging With Education Leaders
The Lunch & Learn sparked valuable discussions on how to build a stronger talent pipeline between the schools’ CTE programs and Bollinger Shipyards. Superintendents and CTE directors shared insights on the skills their students are developing, while Bollinger representatives discussed workforce needs and opportunities for collaboration. These conversations highlighted the importance of aligning educational programs with real-world careers, ultimately ensuring students are not only prepared for success after graduation but also aware of the opportunities available in their own community.
